Madge was such a great lady with a beautiful smile and heart. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, grandmother and friend. I was so fortunate to get to know Vernon and Madge and kids while they lived in Friend and Dufur. Love and hugs to you all.

Dear Editor,
I am a volunteer at the local meals on wheels program in The Dalles and I volunteer in the kitchen and help prepare meals for our local senior citizens and I have been on some of the routes for Delivery for Meals to those who cannot come to the center. Also it is very important to help keep our local seniors healthy and fit. I’ve been with Meals on Wheels since November 2010 and learned to make healthy and portion meals and many skills of keeping things clean after food prep. I want to mention as a person with a Disability I’ve grown to fit in at Meals on Wheels and have been thinking and planning to start a garden plot due to the costs going up and hearing of budgeting for fresh produce, vegetables, and lettuce and things that are used on a daily basis I’m willing to donate my produce that I grow to Meals on Wheels. Also if it was not for Meals on Wheels willing to offer a volunteer position I’m not sure what I would be doing today. Also, want to thank my wonderful co-workers at Meals on Wheels for all they have done and given to everyone and teaching me everything they know of showing me how to Cut Brownies and showing basic cooking skills and I’ve been taught on the dishwasher. I have graduated from several Different areas at Meals on Wheels since I Started there. The Meals on Wheels means so much to those who desperately need them as they may not be able to get around or cook for themselves. Meals on Wheels runs on income to keep the program running as if Meals on Wheels was not helping our seniors then not sure what could happen. Meals on Wheels feeds an average of 200 people and they do the best they can but funding to run meals on Wheels is helpful. I know for planning for diabetic meals, low salt meals, it means a lot for our local seniors so I am glad they are there for them. Funding through the Mid-Columbia Council of Governments /AAA is being cut for meals on Wheels!

Mentor For Success will hold a training for new volunteer mentors on June 16 in Hood River (at The Next Door office, 965 Tucker Rd, 9:30am-3pm). A mentor can make a BIG difference in the life of a struggling area teen, and have fun doing it!

We loved Harriette. She was soooo much fun. When we pastored the Methodist Church in Dufur she hosted a course of our progressive dinner at her home, along with her sister. The food was wonderful, she was so accomodating and we laughed so much. She was a joy. And we know she is celebrating now with those that have gone before. Our prayers for you in your loss.

Unfortunately, we did not receive a link to the flash mob instructions, but the filmers plan to provide instruction at the scene at 11 a.m. -- that's between First and Second streets on Federal in The Dalles. People who want to dance should enter the area from the First Street parking lot side. Signing of a film release is required.
